Ingredients:

Wonton Filling:

  • 8 ounces ground pork
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cornstarch

Broth:

  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, whole
  • 2 slices ginger, approximately 1/4 inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions:

Wontons:

  1. In a large bowl, combine all the filling ingredients.
  2. Place 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of a wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water and fold in half to create a triangle. Moisten the two longer tips and bring them together, pressing firmly to seal.
  3. Dip the bottom of the wonton in flour and place on a parchment-lined pan. Repeat with the remaining wontons.

Soup:

  1. In a large pot, bring all the broth ingredients to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the whole garlic cloves and ginger slices, and discard.
  3. Add the wontons into the simmering broth and cook for 4-6 minutes, or until the pork in the wontons is cooked through.
  4. Serve the homemade wonton soup immediately, garnished with sliced green onions for an extra burst of freshness.
